Although British singer-songwriter ESCAPADES has only released two songs so far, his future is incredibly bright. Both tracks (his biggest hit, ‘Nicotine’, can be heard above) show massive potential and while he is currently focusing on his university education, I know that ESCAPADES (real name: Rob Wilson) will become a household name in the indie scene very soon. Read on to discover more about this pop/rock prodigy…
Hey mate! Just so the readers know, what’s your name and age?
My name is Rob Wilson, but I play under the name of ESCAPADES and have been doing since summer of 2015. I’m 20.
Awesome. Can you give me three words to describe ESCAPADE’s music for someone who’s never heard it before?
Hook-heavy Indie Rock
Perfect! Now, if you could tour with any band or artist, who would it be?
I’ve recently just got into Foals, and I’m absolutely blown away by their live stuff. I’ve heard some pretty mad stories about their tours, so I think I’d like to tour with them for a while.
Yes I love Foals! I caught them at Reading Festival a few years ago and I can happily tell you that they are amazing. Now I know you only recently started performing as ESCAPADES, but what do you feel is your best achievement so far?
So far, I’d probably say that the coolest thing that has come my way was playing the first ‘Never Fade Sessions’, a night of various acts curated by Gabrielle Aplin.
Wow that’s amazing. Kudos to you! Next, could you describe your songwriting process?
- Endure some kind of emotional trauma 2. Become mad / reflective on said trauma 3. Think up a riff randomly 4. Come up with angsty lyrics.
Haha that sounds like a reliable way to write. Do you write the lyrics before the music?
It’s not usual that I do. There have been instances where I’ve thought up a cool little line or two, but not full lyrics. They tend to come after the music.
Interesting. Do you have a favourite song that you’ve released so far?
Yeah, Nicotine is my favourite. I like it because it got a lot of frustration out of me, and I felt it was something that needed to be said.
Good stuff. Finally, what are your plans for the future of ESCAPADES?
Well, I’m coming into my final year at university in September, so I’ve got to concentrate a fair bit on my studies. I’m sure that I’ll get time to do music alongside them, so I’m hoping to work on an EP over a number of months.
Brilliant, I can’t wait to hear it!!
